Attending The Secrets of Homeland Panel

Tuesday night, I had the honour of getting a last minute VIP pass to Showtime's Secrets of Homeland panel held at the Sheraton TriBeCa Club Lounge.  It was kind of a fluke in getting the ticket but I was lucky enough to get the final one! I did have to ask a question and hopefully when it does go public, it won't show me mumbling my way through... Now Homeland is one of the few shows I take the time to keep up with, I've always been a huge fan of Damian Lewis who was the draw to the show in its first season. And since then, like so many, I've been hooked week after week! Attending this event was such a treat!

The panelists included two cast members from Homeland, Navid Negahban who played Abu Nazir in season 1 & 2, and Nazanin Boniadi, who plays Fara in the current season of the hit show. The final two panelists were CBS correspondent and former Government official, John Miller and Jack Devine, a veteran of the CIA. Both had amazing insight into what the real world search for terrorists is like. It was great that the actors seemed just as interested in what they had to say as the audience did!

The discussion between the panelists was fascinating and I love delving deeper into the world of Homeland and the aspects of reality that are reflected in the show. They recorded the panel so my hope is it will be release soon! It'll definitely be worth watching!

After the Q&A part, we were all invited to a reception in their Club Lounge overlooking Manhattan. The view was gorgeous! The food spreads were delicious; desserts, finger food, wine and beer, everything was great! We were able to mingle with the panelists and they also had someone interviewing attendees. It was a lot of fun and yes, I did get interviewed. I chatted with both stars of Homeland a bit and told them how much I love the show.

On our way out, we received goodie bags which had popcorn, candy, a Homeland blanket, a wine bag, a pair of headphones, a screen cleaner, AND season 1 & 2 of Homeland!!!

It was an all around wonderful and insightful evening and I'd like to thank Sheraton TriBeCa and Starwood Rewards for allowing me to attend! I was not a member of their rewards club but if this is the treatment their guests receive, sign me up! I'll definitely be posting the panel when it becomes available!

Remembering Ed Lauter

Back when I was about 12, I had a wonderful meeting with Ed Lauter. He was looking for Bernie Williams at the Yankees' hotel in Anaheim and asked me, another girl about my age and her mother if we'd seen him; we were waiting in the lobby for the Yankees to come back from the game. The mother didn't believe that this guy really knew Bernie and refused to give him any real info. He walked away rather pissed.

A young boy who was also getting autographs and I ran over to the man about five minutes later to see if he'd sign a ball for us, we knew he was an actor but being young, weren't quite sure from where. He asked if we knew who he was. We were both shy and kind of smiled.

After he signed the boy's baseball, the boy ran away and I was left with Mr. Lauter and his teenaged son. He asked me if that had been my mom, I said no, it was my friend's mom and he told me to tell her she was an idiot! Haha! I agreed that she had been very rude.

He then went on to explain to me what he had been in recently: Not Another Teen movie, the original and remake of The Longest Yard, trying to figure out something I would've seen him in. He eventually wrote on the ball "To Elisa Hi...Ed Lauter "Seabiscuit"" saying that was probably the most age appropriate film. We chatted a bit more about the Yankees. He was very sweet and wished me well.

I did end up seeing him later in the series during batting practice from my perch behind the dugout. From then on, I always looked out for him in films and on television. And he was in them often.

This interaction has always stayed with me and I greatly appreciate him taking the time to chat with a young, inquiring girl.

I will remember him from ER, The X-Files and this particularly delightful interaction.

Thank you, Mr. Lauter.

The NY Premiere of Rush! Meeting Chris Hemsworth & Daniel Brühl!

The NY premiere of Ron Howard's Rush starring Chris Hemsworth & Daniel Brühl was last week and I happened to have the day off! It was a pretty cool set up with two Ferrari's up front including one of the racing cars from the film.

The two stars attended but no one else from the movie. There were quite a few cool guests. I was able to get photos with Hemsworth, Brühl, Dan Stevens (Brühl's costar from the Fifth Estate), Jeff Gordon, Kate Flannery, and Dana Delany!

Everyone was so nice and as always, Hemsworth was fantastic with his fans. Mr. Brühl was generous with his time as well. I was able to get a Rush piece signed as well as a solo shot for Hemsworth!

The Normal Heart Set

When I found out that they were finally making a film version of Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart, I was excited if not a bit hesitant.

I was lucky enough to see the recent production of the show on Broadway which starred Joe Mantello, John Benjamin Hickey, Lee Pace, Jim Parsons, Ellen Barkin and more! Plus, I'd seen the a bootleg of the Public Theater's most recent production. It's an incredibly powerful piece; a play everyone should see or read at least once in their lives. It's a look at the rise of the HIV/AIDS crisis from 1981-'84 in NYC. Seriously, go out and read it.

I was thrilled that more people would be able to see it through another medium.

The cast is full of great names: Mark Ruffalo, Julia Roberts, Alfred Molina, Matt Bomer, just to name some.

While it was filming in New York, I was able to go to the set a couple of times and was able to meet Mark Ruffalo who plays the lead character, Ned Weeks, an activist who's story is the main focus of the play. I am looking forward to seeing his portrayal of the character so richly played by Joe Mantello who received a Tony Award nomination that year.

He signed a BTS shot from The Avengers and was really excited to see the photo. He wrote "To Elisa, It's Sweet. <3 Mark Ruffalo". (I had previously tried to get Mr Whedon to sign it but failed.)

John Benjamin Hickey's performance as Felix Turner, Ned's closeted lover, shattered me. He won the Tony award and rightly so. In the film, Matt Bomer is in that role. Honestly, I don't think anyone could beat Mr. Hickey's portrayal for me but I'm hoping he gets close. Mr. Bomer was kind enough to sign a White Collar poster for me. He also signed a Superman Unbound shot, which he was excited to sign since it was the first Superman item he'd signed!

I am anxiously awaiting the release of this HBO film. I can't wait for everyone to see this incredible story.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Set

I was lucky enough to meet a few of the stars of the Amazing Spider-Man 2 on set a couple of times throughout filming.

The cast was extremely kind to fans, spending as much time as they could when on breaks from filming. I was even able to meet Shailene Woodley, who had the now cut role of Mary Jane Watson!

Nathan Fillion at Nerd HQ

Nerd HQ. It has become my favourite thing about San Diego Comic Con these past few years. Run by the incredibly awesome (and multi-talented) Zachary Levi's Nerd Machine, it's the place to be! They raise money for Operation Smile which helps treat facial deformities in children.

This year, thanks to the quick fingers of a great friend, I was able to attend the one panel (or Conversations for a Cause) I was determined to attend, one of the two Nathan Fillion panels. This year, Nerd HQ moved to Petco Park allowing for more space all whilst keeping everything in a much more intimate setting.

You can watch all of the Conversations for a Cause, and I recommend doing so, they are brilliant, on the Nerd Machines' YouTube channel!

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/eY8s98xznwg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The Nathan Fillion panel was moderated by his Firefly costar and ridiculously talented friend, Alan Tudyk! They were hilarious together, riffing off one another and sharing some awesome stories. Again, I encourage you to watch both panels.

But, while waiting in line to enter the room where the panel would be held, I received a notice that Mr. Fillion would be doing Smiles for Smiles (photos with fans in their photo booth) after the second panel. My friend and I were in a conundrum. Either skip the panel to ensure we'd get a photo or try to find someone who'd stay in line for us. Thanks to an incredibly awesome friend who ran from the convention center to Nerd HQ and held a spot in line while we were in the panel, missing a signing she wanted to go to, we succeeded in getting photos with not only Mr. Fillion but a dual shot with Mr. Tudyk!!!

I was in heaven. It's no secret I am a huge fan of mr. Fillion and after the last photo fail with him, this made up for everything.

So a big shutout to Mr. Levi and all those running Nerd HQ this year and the past years. It's a highlight of SDCC for me time and time again!!!

(And go see Zachary Levi on Broadway in First Date!!!)

Ender's Game at San Diego Comic Con

Since I was a wee one, Ender's Game has been one of my three favourite books (Gone with the Wind and The Godfather are the other two). For years they been trying to adapt the book into a film and finally it's happening.

At SDCC this year, one of my main wants was to meet the cast and hit the Ender's Game experience. It was incredible to see some of the sets up close, to feel like you were headed to Battle School...it took me back to childhood. We were even put into armies! I got Dragon Army. :)

If anyone was the Fifth Beatle, it was Brian.”—Paul McCartney

MAY 31, MILWAUKIE, OR—Ever since its announcement last fallthere has been buzz about THE FIFTH BEATLEWritten by multiple Tony Awardwinning producer Vivek J. Tiwary (Green Days American IdiotThe Addams FamilyMel Brooks’s The Producers)The Fifth Beatle, chronicling the life of the Beatles manager, Brian Epstein, will officially be releasedon November 19.

The Fifth Beatle, from M Press Books, a division of Dark Horse Comics, recounts the untold true story of Brian Epstein, the visionary manager who discovered and guidedthe Beatles to unprecedented international stardom—yet died painfully lonely at the young age of thirty-two. More than merely the story of The Man Who Made the Beatles,The Fifth Beatle is an uplifting, tragic, and ultimately inspirational human story about the desire to leave behind a legacy, amidst the struggle to overcome crushing personal obstacles and insurmountable odds.

This marks the first full-length graphic novel painted by fanboy favorite Andrew C. Robinson (Dusty StarKing ConanStarmanSuperman). The book also features a special section paying homage to the 1960s Beatles cartoons, lovingly drawn by multiple Eisner and Harvey Awardwinning cartoonist Kyle Baker (Why I Hate Saturn,Plastic ManNat Turner).

Telling the Brian Epstein story is a true labor of love. The Fifth Beatle really is my lifes workas Ive been researching Brians life for more than half my own, saysTiwarySo its with great excitement and anticipation that I can finally share this little-known story about one of the great architects of modern pop culture with the rest of the world.

Vivek J. Tiwary is also set to write and produce a feature-film adaptation of his graphic novel. Tiwary has signed a deal with Sony/ATV (who control the Lennon/McCartney music catalog) which gives him unprecedented access to Beatles songs for the film.

Meeting the cast of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.!!

I currently without a working computer, so I apologize for my absence! Here's a short update!

One of the shows I'm most looking forward to next season is Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC for obvious reasons (it's Marvel. It's Whedon. That cast.)

My hope was that they'd bring the five leads to the ABC Upfront. Especially since this seemed to be the show ABC was touting the most for its fall season.

And my wish was granted! After a day of running around and one evening outside an after-party, I successfully completed my Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. promo photo including getting Joss & Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen! It was great seeing the casts reaction to the photo since it had been released only a couple of days before! And this group has to be one of the nicest I've encountered. They're al clearly excited about the show and that's great to see! I was also able to get photos with almost the whole cast (all except Brett Dalton). I already had a photo with Clark Gregg who plays the returning Agent Coulson.

I seriously cannot wait to see this show! If you haven't yet, check out the trailer for the show!

Attending the first FOX FanFront!

Every year, the networks present the lineup for their upcoming season for ad reps who will (hopefully) buy up spots! This year was the first year I was able to take part in this crazy week full of running around.

This was also the first year FOX included fans in the festivities. I noticed in late April that The Hollywood Reporter website posted something about a "FanFront". Now, I'll admit, the only shows I watch currently on FOX are Bones, The Following and occasionally Raising Hope. There are however a ton of people on FOX shows I respect and admire. So I was excited to attend this brand new event! So excited, in fact, that I skipped sleeping altogether and joined the short line at 1AM for a checkin time at 2:30PM. Joined by two friends who are huge fans of FOX and a few things I wanted signed by stars of current and new shows, I waited out in the cold (why is the weather so random in NYC!) and tried to get a little sleep.

Fast forward to the afternoon. The short line of people in front of me has somehow almost doubled and instead of being in the first 15, we're now about 30 back. And most of them a Gleeks...

Now, since this is the first time they've done this event, we have no idea how its going to go, if we'll get to meet the actors or if we'll just be staring at them from bleachers. We start wondering if its worth it but since I just spent 12+hours on Central Park South, I've no plans on just leaving.

We begin to check in, and they start taking us in in groups of 15 (we somehow end up in the third group). As we approach the tent containing the bleachers, we place ourselves so we're in the front row of the bleachers, hoping we have a good spot. We see the stage; two musical groups are scheduled to perform- Fifth Harmony (of X-Factor fame) and the Bacon Brothers!

It's another hour and a half wait until something happens. Fifth Harmony performs. They're adorable. They all come and greet fans down the line; we have hope this is how they'll all come through!

My main goal for the day was to get Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz to sign my SDCC Bones poster (and a photo with Boreanaz), Kevin Bacon to sign my Following poster, Karl Urban to sign my Star Trek poster and photos with Chris Meloni, Tom Mison (I love him in Lost in Austen) and Alexis Bladel.

They have an annoyingly bright light pointed at us and it starts getting warm (which I didn't mind but the poor actors keep commenting on how hot it is). The first people to start trickling in are the casts of The Mindy Show and The New Girl! They begin to walk down the line, greeting fans and taking photos! Yes! It starts getting really crazy as the cast of Glee enters, many of them stop for fans but Chris Colfer is one who quickly waves at fans and continues through, stopping only once or twice. I'm not a fan of the show but glad that the others including Lea Michele and Darren Criss, are being so generous! They have incredible dedicated fans! It's all over the place by then; people pushing as they try to wedge themselves in behind us in the front and the barricade starts to give way. Security has to hold the thing up as the stars walk by, stopping for those who call out. It's rapid fire by this time and I try to get as many people as I can! I'm successful in getting pretty much everyone I want! Plus, I was able to get a photo with Zooey Deschanel, which I REALLY wasn't expecting! Karl Urban signs my poster but gets my name wrong! I'll laugh every time I see it now! Haha!

Some of my photos came out weird because of the light and how the shadows fall but it's all good!

FOX also gives us free shirts, popcorn, shaved ice from the best NYC ice place, People's Pops and more in The Following swag bags!

The event ends up being really fun! We even get to see clips from the new shows! I can't wait for Almost Human, Sleepy Hollow and Rake among others!

All in all, totally worth going to. We eventually leave and start running around for other network's people but that's for another post!

I'll definitely be trying to do this event next year! Bravo, FOX! It's great that one of the big four networks see that the fans' enthusiasm helps!

Thanks for reading and follow my adventure on twitter- @Corellianjedi2
